State Police to Conduct DWI Checkpoint on Garden State Parkway March 7
March brings out a lot of partying at the Jersey Shore due to multiple St. Patty’s Day Parades and other drinking festivals. In an attempt to control drunk driving during this time, State Troopers have announced that they will set up a DWI checkpoint on the Garden State Parkway starting Saturday, March 7 at 6pm through Sunday March 8 at 2am.
A lot of questions are being asked about this announcement with the top one being “why are they warning drivers?”
In a news release the State Police stated:
“Are we losing the element of surprise by sending out this message ahead of time? Maybe, but people who choose to drive after drinking already know how expensive, life-changing, and deadly such a decision can be. But they do it anyway in total disregard for their safety and the safety of everyone else on the road. We’re assuming that their poor judgment will not impede our ability to take drunk drivers off the road just because of a little advance warning.”
Many are concerned with the time frame of the checkpoint and the location being the Garden State Parkway. The important thing to know is that if you drive intoxicated this weekend through Monmouth County, you will be caught and have to face the consequences.
